Strengthen your revenue generation efforts, Terkpe urges MMDAs

Wa, Oct. 13, GNA – Mr Seth Terkpe, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to improve on their revenue generation efforts.

“Overdependence on central government revenue transfer must not be tolerated, adding it is high time regional ministers as well as MMDAs weigh up crusade to revamp the efforts of government machinery in revenue generation at the local government level”.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria's first lady has openly questioned her husband's work and said she may not support him if he runs again — comments that President Muhammadu Buhari laughed off, saying, "I don't know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room."

His comments to reporters in Germany prompted German Chancellor Angela Merkel, standing at his side, to give him a short glare and then laugh.

Finance Minister presents 2017 1st quarter budget Thursday

he Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, is expected to present to Parliament next week Thursday, an Advanced Budget; covering government spending for the first quarter of 2017.

The statement will detail the projected revenue and expenditure between January and March next year.

This practice is in accordance with what the Executive does almost every election year to avoid spending hiccups in case of a transition in government.

This is also in accordance with a 2017 budget preparation calendar by the Ministry of Finance.

Competition forced cement price drop in Ghana – Trade Ministry

The Minister of Trades and Industry, Ekow Spio-Garbrah has explained that prices of cement in the country have reduced appreciably due to moves by government to boost competition in the sector.

Spio-Garbrah has come under pressure from the Association of Cement Manufacturers of Ghana (CMAG) for approving the license of some foreign companies to import about 500,000 metric tonnes of cement into the country.

A fight between IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko is "very close", promoter Eddie Hearn says.

On Wednesday, Briton Tyson Fury - who had withdrawn from two scheduled rematches with Ukraine's Klitschko - relinquished his WBA and WBO belts.

That leaves Britain's Joshua and Klitschko free to fight for the WBA and IBF titles in a unification bout.

"It is the big favourite to be the next fight for both," Hearn said.

ECG privatisation: Court to hear injunction suit today

An Accra High Court will today [Wednesday] hear an interlocutory injunction case filed against the government on its plans to cede part of the operations of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to a private company.

A group known as the Coalition against the concession of ECG, contends that the proposed plan by government is not in the best interest of the nation and must not be allowed to go through.
