The Chief Justice Mrs Georgina T. Wood said the Judiciary has men and women committed to safeguarding and protecting electoral rights based on the fundamental rights of all individuals.

She has therefore called for stakeholder collaboration and cooperation to ensure that electoral disputes were dealt with smoothly, timely and successively.

Mrs Justice Wood was speaking at the opening of the ninth edition of the Annual Chief Justice’s Forum in Accra on the theme: “The Judiciary and Election 2016.”

Two Chinese nationals are in the grip of the National Security for allegedly destroying land belonging to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

Li Wen Qieng, 28, and Mo Sin Shan, 35, were arrested in Wassa Saman in the Wassa Mampong District in the Western Region on Saturday, October 22, 2016.

Kumasi, Oct 21, GNA - Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor has performed the ceremony to inaugurate a 200-bed capacity hostel built in Oforikrom, Kumasi.

The facility would provide decent accommodation for personnel of the service deployed for operation duties and was undertaken through public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The IGP described the project as “clear demonstration of what police-civilian partnership can offer within the context of public safety and security for the benefit of our communities”.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Kudalor has reiterated his call for social media ban on election day if users post information that will threaten the peace of the country.

According to him, the citizens have so far not given the police reasons to block various social media platforms on elections day.

"So far, so good...whether we will shut it down or not, I don't want to go there, when we get to the bridge we will cross it but as at now, we have no intention to shut down social media if you continue to be good citizens," he indicated.

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – The Zero Tolerance for Teacher Absenteeism policy adopted by the Ministry of Education to enhance accountability, and increase teacher presence as well as time on desk in schools has yielded positive results.

After three years of its implementation, the rate of teacher absenteeism has declined from 27 per cent in 2012 to seven per cent in 2016.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister of Education, who announced this in Accra said, the Ministry would continue to champion the course until the rate of teacher absenteeism is brought to zero.
