Psychiatric nurses call off strike

Psychiatric Nurses

Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital have called off their one-week strike after a meeting with stakeholders on Monday, November 7.

According to the nurses, they will resume work on Tuesday, November 8, having been satisfied with assurances as well as supply of logistics to the country’s foremost psychiatric hospital.

The nurses began an indefinite strike on Monday, October 31 after complaining of “shortage of essential medications” required for psychiatric management, among other reasons.

Upon hearing Thaddeus Sory with him Sean Opoku, Sanya Anita Morrison and Reindof Twumasi Ankrah counsel for the applicant and Ayikoi Otoo with him Gary Nimako Marfo, Felix Ograh, Ofosu Appiah, Naa Djama Ayikoi Otoo and Barbara Brown Counsel for the interested party;

It is hereby ordered that: –

The applicant extends the nomination period from today Monday, 7th November to the close of working day of Tuesday 8th November .

Supreme Court orders EC to give disqualified candidates second chance

Four of the disqualified Presidential candidates

The Supreme Court has ordered Ghana’s Electoral Commission to extend nomination period to Tuesday, November 8 to allow all the disqualified presidential nominees to correct all errors on their nomination forms.

It has also ordered a stay of the hearing of all cases challenging the disqualification of the affected presidential nominees.

The Commission on October 10 disqualified 13 presidential nominees after it detected different errors on their nomination forms.

David Annan questions credibility of Occupy Ghana leadership, tags them “shadowy”

David Annan, Private Legal practitioner

Private legal practitioner, David Annan, has described the pressure group, OccupyGhana, as shadowy, and questioned the true identity of the personalities behind the group, which has been demanding accountability and justice in the country.

According to him the group is being spearheaded by faceless personalities who are hiding their identity, hence asked Ghanaians not to take the group serious.

Mr Annan’s argument comes on the back of a recent statement issued by the group on November 2, 2016 on the Alfred Agbesi Woyome case with the Attorney General.

Mahama: Education not failing

President John Dramani Mahama has refuted assertions that Ghana's education is declining under his leadership.

The flag bearer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) said "It’s absolutely not true", adding that Ghana is becoming an educational hub in Africa.

He said the nation's education is getting better every year. He, therefore, called on the media to do their research and not be conveyor belts for people’s false statements as Ghana is performing better in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

SC’s judgment victory for democracy – EC

The judgment handed by the Supreme Court of Ghana ordering the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow disqualified flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, to get back into the presidential race is victory for democracy, Thaddeus Sory, lawyer for the EC has said.

The apex court on Monday, 7 November also ordered the EC to extend the nomination period for flag bearers to Tuesday, 8 November. It also directed the EC to give all parties a fair hearing to make the necessary corrections on their nomination forms.

Ghana is a haven for investors - French Ambassador

Accra, Nov. 5, GNA - Mr Francois Pujolas, the French Ambassador says the political and socio economic stability in Ghana has made it a haven for investors the world over.

He said business organisations in France were highly interested in the Ghanaian market adding “we in France have great confidence in the Ghanaian market, and this is buttressed by the political stability that pertains in the country.”

Mr Pujolas said this in Accra at a programme to announce Air France’s commencement of weekly flights to Accra from Paris - Charles de Gaulle and back.
