UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce to launch investment tour

Accra, Sept. 5, GNA - The United Kingdom-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) would host a multi-sector business trip to Accra for British companies, investors, exporters, importers and SMEs, from Monday, October 17 to Friday October, 21.

A statement issued by Mr Tony Burkson, the Chief Executive Officer of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said the five-day Ghana Investment Tour (GIT) would focus on showcasing collaborative and investment opportunities in Ghana’s technology, tourism and agriculture sectors.

Journalist arrested for taking photos of a Policeman who demanded GHC 5 bribe

A Journalist from the Daily Express Newspaper has been arrested for ‘offensive conduct’ by the police, for taking pictures of a policeman who was allegedly requesting a GHC5 bribe from a bus driver around Tesano in Accra.

FSDetails available as at press time indicate that Fred Sarpong, the Daily Express Journalist and his colleague, Raphael Apetorgbor witnessed a police officer demanding a GHC 5 bribe from a bus conductor around Tesano this afternoon and took his picture.

Prez Mahama calls for support to improve standard of education in the country

President John Mahama last Saturday joined the chiefs and people of Cape Coast to celebrate this year’s Fetu Afahye and called for conscious efforts to arrest the deteriorating standards of education in the metropolis.
He expressed concern that in spite of the improvement of the average performance at the basic level for the 2014/2015 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), that of Cape Coast over the same period dropped from 31.3 to 29.92 per cent.

IMF Programme…..All Set For Positive Third Review

Ghana is most likely to receive a positive result after the third review of its three-year programme with the International Monetary Fund, IMF.

The staff led by IMF Mission Chief for Ghana, JoëlToujas-Bernaté, were in Accra from Monday, August 29 to Friday September 2, 2016.

The team met with President John Dramani Mahama, Finance Minister Seth Terkper, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Abdul-NashiriIssahaku and other senior government officials and also conducted its own independent checks some key policies being implemented.

The Black Stars contingent is in Moscow for the international friendly against the Golden Eagles

The Black Stars have arrived in Moscow ahead of an international friendly against Russia at the Stadion Lokomotiv on Tuesday, a day after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final qualifier against Rwanda.

Ghana shared the spoils 1-1 with the Amavubi at the Accra Sports Stadium to top Group H.

The friendly is expected to hold amid controversies.

Speaker dismisses motion to investigate President's Ford gift

Accra, Sept. 1, GNA - The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, on Thursday dismissed a motion by the Minority for a bi-partisan special committee to investigate the controversial Ford Expedition gift to President John Mahama by a Burkinabe contractor.

The Minority, through its leader Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu, earlier in August in the motion, called on the House to investigate the receipt or otherwise of the vehicle by the President, if receipt infringed on any of the Laws of Ghana and on his (President’s) Code of Conduct.

Avram Grant has moaned about the Black Stars preparation for the clash against the Amavubi's

Black Stars coach, Avram Grant has stated that he is not pleased with the preparation of the Senior Male National Football Team of Ghana towards the final hurdle of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.

The Black Stars players had to foot their airfares after the Ministry stated they were cash-strapped, so can't afford their travelling expenses for the clash.

Ghana likely to receive next IMF disbursement after successful talks, say sources

ACCRA, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Ghana has made progress after talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the West African commodities exporter could receive the next disbursement under its $918 million aid deal next month, three sources close to the talks told Reuters on Friday.

The IMF staff evaluation mission, led by Joel Toujas-Bernate, is leaving the capital Accra broadly satisfied that Ghana remains on track with agreed fiscal and institutional reforms aimed at restoring economic stability by the end of the three-year programme, they said.

We won’t reverse Anas’ Award – GJA

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has vowed not to quash the award given to investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas as Overall Best Journalist of the Year 2015 in the just ended GJA awards.

Lawyer for Justice Paul Dery, one of the High Court Judges who were caught allegedly taking bribes in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ corruption expose’ in Ghana’s judiciary has said the GJA is in contempt of Court for adjudging Anas best journalist of the year for that piece on judges.
Anas in that story captured 34 judges on video allegedly taking bribes to compromise justice.
