Joyce Mogtari writes...Of Ameri and matters arisingIn the not so recent past, under the watch of former President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana suffered a crippling power production deficit that was christened Dumsor- similar to the power crisis under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. The deficit was the result of previous years of not adding any significant megawatts of production capacity to our generating plants, as against an increase in the power demand by homes and businesses, spurred by population growth and industrial expansion. |

Double-track removes pressure to secure GH¢1bn for infrastructure dev't – Education MinisterThe Minister of Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, says the double-track system, which government intends to roll out in September this year at the Senior High School (SHS) level, will save the nation at least a billion Ghana cedis. He suggests that although the government will eventually spend money to expand infrastructure to deal with the challenges brought on by the free SHS policy, the double-track system will, for instance, remove the pressure to rush through obtaining the funds and putting up school buildings. Time, he said, is not on government's side. |

Is this Ghana? - Tilly's tears for her late husbandThe late Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur deserves every tear shed by his beloved wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur. From all indications, he was everything that a wife wanted to see in a husband. And as she cried for her soul mate, so also have some of us shed tears for him as a friend, affable and warm in character. Indeed, one of the most recent deaths that has moved me so close to tears is that of the former Vice President. He was someone I would describe as a distant friend in that when circumstances brought us nearer, we exchanged pleasantries. |
