An outspoken member of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr. Steve Manteaw has cautioned Ghana’s crude oil managers against hedging the product at the international markets.

He explained that the risks associated with such practice could shortchange the nation’s petroleum revenue.

He thus called for a price stabilization mechanism in tandem with transparency provisions enshrined in the nation’s petroleum laws.

President Nana Akufo Addo has appointed Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Export Import (EXIM) Bank.

His appointment is however pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board of the Bank and in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

A letter signed by President Akufo Addo on the appointment said, “Pursuant to Section 18 (1) of the Ghana Export-Import Bank Act, 2006 (ACT 911), I hereby appoint you to act as the CEO of the Ghana Export Import Bank.”

Theresa May could trigger article 50, the formal process for leaving the European Union, as early as Tuesday if the Brexit bill passes late on Monday, government sources say.

The legislation, which passed through the House of Commons unamended, is due to be debated by MPs on Monday. They will have to decide whether to accept a pair of amendments added by peers – on the rights of European Union citizens and granting parliament a meaningful vote at the end of the process.

The world faces the largest humanitarian crisis since the UN was founded in 1945, with more than 20 million people in four countries facing starvation and famine, the UN humanitarian chief has said.

Stephen O'Brien told the UN Security Council that "without collective and coordinated global efforts, people will simply starve to death" and "many more will suffer and die from disease."

He urged an immediate injection of funds for Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia and northeast Nigeria plus safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid "to avert a catastrophe."

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Apostolic Nunciature in Ghana last Friday held a reception to commemorate its 40 years of diplomatic relations with Ghana.

In attendance were members of the Diplomatic Corps, former President Jerry John John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, traditional rulers, as well as Papal knights and dames.

The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, represented the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The French Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Francois Pujolas, has congratulated the government and people of Ghana on the occasion of the celebration of the country’s 60th independence anniversary which falls today and said the day also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said France and Ghana had cooperated along various areas and would further deepen the friendship in such areas as economic/trade which must be sustainable, security/terrorism, climate change, culture/language, tourism, educational and health, among others.

On this day 60 years ago, many of Ghana’s workers were given the day off. They flocked to central Accra, a city originally settled in the 15th century, to hear Kwame Nkrumah declare independence. Today, only parts of Nkrumah’s Accra remain – while rapid expansion and development is reshaping the city in ways that are causing excitement but also concern.

Accra, Feb 21, GNA - The maiden State of the Nation Address, delivered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to Parliament, on Tuesday, in Accra has attracted mixed reactions.

While some on the side of the Majority praised the President for a brilliant, inspiring and hopeful delivery, some on the Minority criticised the address, describing as lacking substance, and rather a repetition of old ideas.

The delivery of the State of the Nation Address is in fulfilment of a constitutional requirement for the President to address Parliament at the beginning of a new session.
