Ghana’s drop on latest Corruption Perception Index yet another dent on her reputation - NDC

The National Democratic Congress says Ghana's drop on the latest Corruption Perception Index issued by Transparency International represents a dent on the country's image.

In the statement below issued by the NDC's National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, the party also argues that the government, led by President Akufo-Addo, has failed to deliver on its promise to fight corruption, having also failed to achieve even the lowest rank under former President John Mahama.

A fierce debate rages over the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new biometric voters register for the December 2020 elections.

Expectedly, the debate has taken partisan paths with the ruling party backing the decision and the opposition vehemently opposing.

Is this Ghana? - Tilly's tears for her late husband

The late Vice President, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur deserves every tear shed by his beloved wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur. From all indications, he was everything that a wife wanted to see in a husband.

And as she cried for her soul mate, so also have some of us shed tears for him as a friend, affable and warm in character. Indeed, one of the most recent deaths that has moved me so close to tears is that of the former Vice President. He was someone I would describe as a distant friend in that when circumstances brought us nearer, we exchanged pleasantries.

NPP didn’t win 2016 elections, NDC lost – Capt.(retd) Asase Gyimah

A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has offered a fascinating assessment of the 2016 general elections, blaming the party’s poor performance at the polls on indignant supporters.

Naval Captain (Retired) Asase Gyimah suggests that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not win the elections based on the popular appeal of then opposition party’s campaign messages, but due to NDC’s internal challenges.

The unnecessary political twist and turn of the GHs9.7bn bond

The ‘$2.25bn’ Templeton bond saga is a classic example of ‘PR motivated by political spin’ gone bad. I am a strong believer in institutional policy making and cringe when politicians seek to overwhelm the technical space of public relations.

The art of PR makes one minded that your public is not restricted to your customers but include competition and other stakeholders.

Needless to say, politicians ought to be reminded that their public involves more than the electoral public. Focus on sharing facts and cut the political spin.

Don’t be ashamed; we did well – Mahama to NDC appointees

Despite a painful defeat in the 2016 general elections, former President John Dramani Mahama believes the National Democratic Congress (NDC) effectively delivered its mandate while in office.

Many, including some members of the governing NDC, have attributed the party’s loss to the incompetence of the President’s team, corruption in government and impunity, among others.

In spite of these criticisms, the President asked the former appointees to hold themselves high in light of what he calls the “monumental achievements” that the party chalked while in power.

Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, is this police behaviour acceptable to you?

Ghana is a very funny place. Hypocrisy and selfishness have eaten so much into our social fabric that some of us are even ready to assist in our self-destruction!

Currently, a video in the Twi language has gone 'viral' on the Internet, in which a young Ghanaian man is seen warning the Akufo- Addo Government not to carry out its plans to end galamsey.

Pendulum:Heresy In The House Of Oduduwa

Fellow Nigerians, let me take you on historical excursions today. At this unfortunate time that History is not a compulsory subject in our school curriculum, it is pertinent to educate ourselves properly about our dear beloved nation. For those who may not know, Ile-Ife is the ancestral home of all Yoruba people. Please, ignore attempts by all manner of historians attempting to rewrite history. Ile-Ife occupies an eminent space on the world map today, and as far back as I can remember, as being the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, at the very least.

Why the tax net must catch the churches as well

Of course, freedom of worship is an inalienable human right which encapsulated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Consequently, freedom of worship has been given meaning in our 1992 Constitution. So, there is no permitted abridgment as to which religious sect one could join,---you have your inherent dignity and inalienable right to choose.

The Obama Legacy: any lessons for Africa?

As President Obama prepares to leave the national and global scene much ink would be spent discussing, debating, and dissecting his legacy. While much of this deliberation is likely to focus on his contribution to bare-knuckled politics, raw policy and other fiscal issues I argue that Barack Obama’s imprint on his country and the world goes beyond dollars and cents.
